Graduation Planning System (GPS)

What is GPS?

Two U Graduates

The University of Utah offers students the opportunity to plan courses for their degree with the online Graduation Planning System (GPS), available through Campus Information System (CIS). GPS allows students to create several "what if" plans towards their graduation.

  1. Academic departments will create a 4 year and/or a 5 year course plan which identifies how to sequence courses for major completion. These plans indicate best strategies for pre-requisite courses, sequenced courses, and capstone. Students will also see suggested patterns for other components of a degree such as general education courses, bachelor’s degree courses, and upper division courses.
  2. Students can rearrange the courses in the major and degree plan to meet individual circumstances (such as extracurricular activities like study abroad, internships, research, or service) and forecast their graduation.

Students who develop their own plans must meet with their advisor to make sure the plan includes their major courses in the appropriate sequence as well as accomplishing all pre-requisites. Then the advisor can approve the plan. GPS does not replace your academic advisor!

If you don’t see your major in GPS, contact your advisor.
