Leadership Studies

Program Description

This minor helps students build transferable skills, engage in challenging conversations, hone their leadership style, examine new perspectives, reflect and think critically, speed up their general ed progress, and access new electives. It has the potential to pair with any major and provide valuable growth for any student. The program curriculum includes a foundations course, a practicum experience class, and a synthesizing capstone course, along with electives from three categories – Ethical and Cultural Foundations; Group, Organizational, and Community Contexts; and Practical Skills and Processes. Through readings, discussions, experiences, and reflection, the Leadership Studies Minor supports your growth as a leader and a member of many leadership processes.

Academic and Career Opportunities

The U offers many opportunities for students to apply what they are learning in the Leadership Studies Minor. Student organizations in the Associated Students of the University of Utah (ASUU) and service projects in the Bennion Center are a great place to start! Other students find exceptional experiences in peer advising roles in the LEAP Program, in Undergraduate Research, and in tutor roles in the Learning Center. The growth you experience during your courses will set you up to keep reflecting, to keep growing, and to keep evolving as a leader.
