Middle Eastern (Persian)

Program Description

The Middle Easter Studies - Persian minor offers students the chance to learn an additional language and gain a deeper understanding of another culture. The minor includes courses and resources designed to train students in Persian at all stages of proficiency, including some instruction in spoken dialects of the language: in addition to four years of learning the Persian language, students can also take Persian literature and culture courses. While developing Persian reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills, the comprehensive coursework allows advanced students to be immersed in the language and to discuss Persian texts from various periods of Arab and Islamic history.

Academic and Career Opportunities

You can enhance your studies by completing an Intensive Summer Language Program in a regional country; networking opportunities are also available through the Model Arab League and the Middle East Languages Club. The skills you gain from this minor can be applied to a number of professional fields, such as translation/interpretation, immigration, journalism, or international business ventures.
