Podiatry School Application

The Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) is a specialist concerned with prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of foot disorders resulting from injury or disease. Learn about the profession, including how to apply, find a mentor, and research schools at the American Association of Colleges of Podiatric Medicine (AACPM).

Application

You may apply to seven colleges of podiatric medicine by submitting one application to the American Association of Colleges of Podiatric Medicine Application Service (AACPMAS). You will send letters of recommendation; transcripts are sent directly to each college. Three letters of recommendation are required by most schools: two from science professors and one from a podiatrist. Students may use our letter of  recommendation service; see the advising office for more details. The deadline for applying to the colleges through AACPMAS is July 31 of each year for that year's entering class. However, because colleges accept students on a rolling admission basis, it is advisable to apply in the fall or winter, and well before the deadline. Applications received by April 1 will be given priority consideration.

Medical College Admission Test

The computerized MCAT is administered seven months out of each year. The exam must be taken no later than April, prior to fall entrance, preferably earlier. Register online.
Some schools will accept other test scores, such as the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or Dental Admissions Test (DAT), in lieu of the MCAT.

Personal Interview

A personal interview is required of all applicants who are seriously being considered for admission, to acquaint them with the school and to aid the admissions committees in understanding the personal qualifications and interest of applicants.

WICHE

The Western Interstate Commission on Higher Education (WICHE) is a consortium of undergraduate and graduate programs in the western states. This enables Utah residents to enroll in out-of-state professional programs at a reduced tuition rate. The California College of Podiatric Medicine at Samuel Merritt College is the participating western podiatry school. In order to qualify for WICHE, students must file a WICHE application and have been a resident of Utah for at least 5 years by November 1, one year prior to the fall entrance date to podiatry school.
