UAAC Outstanding Advisor Awards - History of Award

In 2011, the University Academic Advising Committee recognized the need to focus upon and reward excellence in advising at the University of Utah, and established an Awards Committee.  In 2012, we had our first Outstanding Advisor Award process.  The Awards Committee decided to utilize the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) guidelines and incorporate many of the criteria from the NACADA Awards into our own award process.

The Awards Committee reviewed the 2012 process and recognized a need to distinguish between advisors with a solid core of experience on their resume and enthusiastic newer advisors with solid and impressive practices but not as much experience.  Thus, in 2013, two awards were given: the Outstanding Advisor Award and the Outstanding New Advisor Award for those who have been in advising for 3 or fewer years.
