Informational Items

Immunizations – Kerry Hill

  • Used to fill out an actual card, but now it is all online
  • Students will get them at orientation
  • Can be found at http://www.studenthealth.com
    • click red button patient portal
    • click sign- up
    • replace u with the 0
    • have to use the name that is in CIS, use your Legal Name not preferred name
    • upload record directly to the website
  • -call Kerry directly with questions
    • once uploaded and verified holds are removed at 2pm and 10pm, within 24 to 48 hours
    • Warning holds will go on -2 weeks into the semester and 10 day warning will be sent out.
    • the hold will go on during MAP season
  • only allow medical or religious exemption, they have to do this in person with Kerry Hill
  • enter dates, upload record, get report, verify date, send message if something is wrong, holds are removed automatically

WRTG 3020 – Dr. Christie Toth and Lisa Shaw

  • Professor in Writing and Rhetoric Studies
  • Piloting a new class- WRTG 3020 M/W at 1:25-2:45, they want to know what happens with transfer students at the U
  • Course is for all transfer especially SLCC students
    • spend a semester in writing in their major
    • Not For the remedial/ or under prepared
    • Fulfills the CW and HF requirements
  • Class will cover:
    • Identify how to apply for scholarships
    • Knowledge commons
    • UROP,MUSE
    • ON campus employment and Internships
    • Career Advising
    • A lot of feedback on writing and revision, a “wake-up call” assignment
    • Connect with other peers and transfer student
  • Maybe offer additional sections and options if the pilot is successful
  • For transfer students for 2017-2018 this spring for those incoming students, community college prices will have to matriculate into the U.
  • All gears to U of U credit

Ongoing Reports – Brief Updates

Admissions – Rachana Patel & Teri Clawson

  • Summer deadline has passed for applications, can still apply with $30 late fee
  • Fall deadline is April1 and can apply up to July1 with late fee
  • Transfer articulation guide please review and revise April 29th, deadline, please look at them, contact into Amanda Tuckett

            -The contact varies from department from department.

  • Readmission deadline- accept applications until___________? Will reply next meeting with a firm date.

Registrar’s Office – Emily Johnson, Michael Santarosa & Zach Klc

  • Advising Newsletter- panel for view graduation status toggle switch are now activated
  • Some feedback experiencing E-application for graduation positively or negatively email Mike Santarosa
  • Anticipated registration dates for students-
    • March 23rd
    • April 13th
    • April 1st last day to W from 2nd half classes
    • April 22nd full and 2nd half to reverse credit no credit
    • April 1st for Summer graduation application

University Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid – Amy Capps & Carol Bergstrom

  • Summer applications are still being taken
  • Federal workstudy applications due by April 1 for Summer
  • 16-17 academic year awards will be hitting U mail first part of April
  • Freshmen offers have gone out this week
  • Departments should have T-53 packets in by April 1st

Career Services – Kelly Dries

  • Wed March 30th- Management Careers Pathway- 5-7pm in the Business School
  • April 7th Mental health counseling pathway-location TBA
    • Post cards are available
  • U work U win- celebration banquet 20 students $100 need of more applications for this award, need more applicants
    • 300 word statement and a cool photo from internship
    • Creative photos- photo does matter
    • In Health care no photos allowed due to HIPA
    • Could be previous completed internship up to a year.
    • Any Undergraduate/Graduate student can apply

Curriculum Administration – Lyndi Duff

  • 2016-2017 general catalog has been published
    • Does have an awesome homepage
    • Ability for students to create their own catalog, pull up those pages
  • Courses that have or are in need of course fees, lab, equipment, cannot do that once a student has registered email Lyndi immediately

DARS & GPS – Richelle Warr

  • Working on 2016-2017 catalog changes

Advisor Education & Development – Juliana Espinosa

  • UAAC conference attendance thank you
    • Please complete survey by March 28th
  • Next Advising Basics, March 22nd RSVP by tomorrow
  • Tech training in AEB 330- by Friday April 1st
  • Advisor social-is coming up, if you want to help plan talk to Juliana
  • UAAC in services are coming
  • ISS advising topic- room availability looking for April 25th Monday of the last week of class, noon brown bag thing

New Student & Family Programs – John Michael Pantlik

  • Thank all of you for Orientation of Orientation event,
    • Bigger picture of how advising fits into new student orientation experience
    • Really Appreciate advisors
  • Orientation sessions all open
    • Trending ahead for Fall students
  • Expecting a huge spike after Red, White and U
  • Also no longer be printing the Undergraduate information it is online and mobile compatible
    • Very few copies who contact us about accessibility need to have one in hand.
    • But information like the New student check list, meet with advisor will be given out at orientation
    • push them to the bulletin online, hosted by the Registrar’s site
  • Contact John for edits, this will allow for real time edits and to service students better
  • Can toggle between the Catalog and Undergraduate bulletin

Transfer Student Issues – Terese Pratt

  • Changes in SLCC in basic Math
  • Big changes/ implications on transferring
  • SLCC is doing away with Math 990 and replacing with Math 980
    • Math 980 is the pre-req for 1030 at SLCC
    • Math 1010 is no longer a pre-req for Math 1030 at SLCC
  • Stem Students can take 980 – 1010 -1050-1060
  • Means if student switched gears and took Math 1030,but need to move into math courses, math 1010 still needed for Math 1050 at the U
  • Prep courses are math emporium, three course 001-002-003 self- paced modules or classes and once completed, can enter Math 1010

Learning Abroad – Megan, new Academic Advisor reported for Jennifer Kirchgasler

  • Academic Advisor workshop on Thursday March 31st bagels and coffee. RSVP online and send in the minutes and just email at learningabraod@utah.edu
  • Summer students 168,00 dollars in scholarships 75% of students that we send abroad a year
  • Over 220,000 a year
  • Offer a lot of scholarships students have about a 1 in 4 chance for a scholarship
  • Not too late to apply for summer programs, affiliate organizations April 1 is the deadline for those programs 1-8 weeks in the summer
  • Applications can be completed in 24 hours of less

Committee Reports

             Mandatory Advising Program (MAP) – Martina Stewart

  • 1st year summer students in early march can give them early registration for Fall semester
  • 2nd year went on March 2nd- 1000 more students this fall. And summer registration approaches

Graduate Advisors Professional Association (GAPA) – Jami Saffioti

Advisor Awards – Shawn Adrian

  • New deadline March 21st for letters of support
  • Organization of the selection committee

Marketing & PR for Advising –Taunya Dressler

Thank you for all of support and feedback in the conference

  • Send out a survey with some of the information
  • A big shout out to Tammy Mabey for updating UAAC website
  • Let them know if you have any questions, comments and feedback etc. regarding the website
  • March 31st next meeting for committee meeting- Dave Bell from ESS added to committee

Advisor Position – Denise Brenes & Tamara Young

  • Tamara- UAAC presentation talked about the lack of this committee and wants to revive the committee
  • Currently the Advisor Position Sub –committee dealing with what are our roles are on campus and how we are seen and treated on campus
  • Want to add members, contact Tamara if you are interested
  • Want to get a feel of where they are and then will schedule an actual meeting

Assessment of Advising – Steve Hadley

  • Meeting next week and one more in meeting in April

Appreciative Advising – Ashley Glenn

  • We are in assessing phase about the the blog by April 15th
  • Will be UAA and regional NACADA

Continuing Business

  • UAA Conference and Early Registration – Mayumi Kasai
    • Early May 18th and 19th – registration is $125 for full conference
    • Wed- $105 per person
    • Prices go up after April 1st

Register as a student $95 day for whole conference

Office send multiple people and pay all at once

New Business

  • Major Expo – Sarah Rollo
    • Save the Date for the 12th annual Major expo on Sept 28th held in union ballroom
    • Marketing to students and prospective students early on.
    • Not just for Undecided - Exploring at any stage
    • Can RSVP online, current students, professors can staff the tables
  • Chemistry permission code website – Natascha Knowlton
    • Have the new permission code page, identical to Math
    • Find it on chemistry website on the advising page
    • Course description page as well
    • Summer permission code request is up
    • Working on Fall page to be up and running

  • Pre-summer FLXU intensive classes – Janet Goff, Candace Krukiel
    • Flyers History of Hip hop and Cultural aspects of food
    • Fall 2016 - only one on the schedule, ATMOS 1010 and working 3 more for Fall break.

Info that Supports Students

  • Undergraduate Research Symposium will be held on April 12th. All U of U undergraduate students are invited to present their research via poster or oral presentations, performances or exhibits.  All disciplines are welcome.  To present, register online at our.utah.edu by March 21st.  Questions? The class schedule online can also be searched by “Off Campus Locations”. Please note that the Murray campus is closing at the conclusion of Spring 2016 semester and all classes will be moved to the Sandy and Bountiful campuses.
