Admissions – Janet Muncey

  • Summer applications are no longer being accepted; the completion deadline for fall applications is July 15 (application, all fees, and transcripts must be in by then).
  • Thanks to everyone for submitting articulation guides to Janet in a timely manner; they will be accepted until mid-June, and will then be updated and returned in July.

Registrar’s Office – Dallin Cowles, Emily Johnson

  • Summer count is 13,295; as of today, fall is at 15,824.
  • Important dates:
  • May 20: last day to add without permission code
  • May 23: last day to drop
  • May 29: tuition due; last day to add and elect CR/NC
    • The application deadline for fall graduation is June 1.
    • Any departments / programs with certificates that haven’t already submitted their lists Registrar’s – they are needed ASAP.
    • Graduation clearance: over 1, 400 degrees done since Commencement day.
    • Faculty grade reports were at 95% the morning that “EU” grades were posted (for unreported grades).

Financial Aid – Jason Barkemeyer (for Amy Capps)

  • Deadline for summer aid application is June 1.

Curriculum Administration – Lyndi Duff, Ed Barbanell

  • June 1 is the deadline for noncredit reporting (for those involved in this).
  • The unified calendar now features different colors (for different originating offices); a survey will be sent out later this summer regarding the calendar.
  • As of fall 2012, students subject to the “three-peat” policy will be charged the extra tuition at the time that they register for the course(s).

DARS/GPS – Shelley Nicholson, Libby Oberg

  • The next DARS training is June 20 (also a good refresher on how to do DARS exceptions).
  • Under consideration: adding advisor contact information onto DARS reports (and possibly in GPS as well); seen as helping to underscore the connection between DARS/GPS and advising. One question: do we want actual advisor phone numbers, or department phone numbers only? Discussion is encouraged on this; if interested in being part of a working group, e-mail dars@sa.utah.edu.
  • GPS: Since August 1, 2011, there are 48 roadmaps and a total of 1,878 unique plans created (grand total of 5,611). 1,737 unique students have used GPS this year, for a grand total of 5,057 students.

Advisor Education and Development – no report

(The recent advisor social went very well.)

Orientation – Kathryn Kay, Trisha Jensen

  • Kathryn (director of Orientation and New Student Programs) introduced herself to the group.
  • Dress rehearsal is June 8; many have already sent RSVP’s (still being accepted). Lunch is included.
  • First-year programs are filling up; many overnight programs are full. Let students and parents know that there are still some open programs.
  • Online orientation is not being encouraged; if a student / parent says that they cannot attend any of the scheduled programs, do not mention the online option but instead refer them to the Orientation office to learn of their options. This year, students who do the online orientation (no matter when) will be released to register on July 27 (it no longer depends on student status of freshman, transfer, etc.).

Transfer Student Issues – Terese Pratt

  • In the past, courses designated as Diversity Courses at Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) always filled the University’s Diversity (DV) requirement. It has recently come to light that a number of these SLCC courses weren’t also approved at the University. Advisors do need to take note of this. Terese will send out, to the UAAC list, a list of those SLCC courses that have been University-approved. (Sharon Aiken-Wisniewski noted that staff changes at both institutions have apparently added to the issue.)

Housing and Residential Education – no report

Mandatory Advising Program – Martina Stewart

  • This year’s MAP program is winding down. Advisors are reminded that there are still some students with second-year advising holds. Please e-mail Martina (mstewart@uc.utah.edu) with any feedback on how things have gone this year, suggestions for improvement, etc.

Major Expo – no report

(But it is happening – September 26)

New and Continuing Business

Career Services: Pat Reilly noted the efforts to increase enrollment in the courses on which Career Services collaborates with the Counseling Center. Fall 2012 will see two courses (both second-session, taught same day and time):

--Explore Your Career Options (mostly targeted to first- and second-year students)

--Perfecting Your Job / Internship Search (more focused on juniors and seniors)

Both are one-credit-hour upper-division courses, graded CR/NC (handouts distributed).

Ensembles: Mary Ann Dresher distributed information on School of Music performing opportunities.

UAAC 2012-14 Co-Chair Nominations: next month’s meeting will include an election for this position. Shari Lindsay’s name has been submitted; other names are still being taken (contact Jency Brown or Jason Barkemeyer).

Speed Exhibit: Liz Leckie announced an exhibit: “Speed: The Art of the Performance Automobile” at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, beginning June 2. Discounted tickets are available for faculty / staff / students.

Year in Review / Changes that Impact 2012-23: Sharon Aiken-Wisniewski distributed and reviewed a list of important updates and changes that impact advising (e.g., math placement; prerequisite checking; recent changes to the academic renewal policy; and the CR/NC grading option). This list will also be sent out shortly on the UAAC listserv.
