UAAC Committees

Academic Senate

Representative: Ashley Glenn

Serving as an Academic Senate representative for academic advisors involves contributing to discussions and providing input on key academic decisions that shape policy, curriculum, and student success. The role also includes sharing updates from Academic Senate with the advising community to keep colleagues informed and connected to institutional governance.

Advising Awards

Chair(s): Madeline Rencher and Bree Molinari

The Advisor Awards Committee's mission is to recognize and celebrate the amazing work of academic advisors across campus through both monthly and yearly awards processes. The Advisor of the Month process operates while UAAC is in session from August-April, taking a break for the summer months. The Outstanding Advisor of the Year awards in the New, Experienced and Administrator categories are awarded each May at the UAAC Conference.

Wellness & Belonging

Chair(s):

This committee supports the planning and implementation of wellness-focused and community-building initiatives that foster connection, belonging, and well-being within the UAAC community. Members participate in monthly committee meetings and collaborate in four-month cycles throughout the summer, fall, and spring semesters to design and support events, activities, and engagement opportunities focused on the multi-faceted aspects of “wellbeing.”. The committee also helps facilitate participation at monthly UAAC meetings and cultivates a collaborative environment that values community voice, inclusion, shared ownership, and meaningful connection.

Best Practices

Chair(s):

This committee contributes to the development of one Campus Advisor Development Series session each fall and spring semester. Members collaborate with advising professionals across campus to design high-quality, relevant learning experiences; identify and recommend timely, community-informed topics; and support outreach to potential presenters. The committee also engages with the advising community to gather input on emerging needs, interests, and professional development priorities.

Mentorship Program

Chair(s): Benjamin Petrie and Emily Pollard

The UAAC Mentorship Program matches experiences advising mentors with newer advisors. We provide structure and prompts for mentors and mentees to learn from each other and engage in professional development together.

Conference Planning

Chair(s): Amber Gordon

This annual, full-day, free conference provides a forum where academic advisors share their knowledge to grow the advising profession and to learn how to better serve our students and campus partners. Presentations focus on university programs, policies, best practices, and advising models, as well as personal and professional well-being.
