FLAS Scholarship Info Session

The University of Utah offers federally funded Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships through the Asia Center and the Center for Latin American Studies.

This scholarship is open to U of U students in any department (except the School of Medicine) for the study of a foreign language and related area studies.

Academic year scholarships provide a $5,000 stipend and up to $10,000 in tuition and fees for undergraduate students. Summer scholarships provide a $2,500 stipend and up to $5,000 in tuition and fees for summer language programs.

The languages currently supported by FLAS are:

  • Chinese
  • Ecuadorian Quechua
  • Hindi-Urdu
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Nahuatl
  • Persian
  • Portuguese
  • Russian
  • Vietnamese
