Program Description
This major is designed to correspond with the Utah State Board of Education endorsement requirements to teach English Language Arts at the secondary level (high school).
In addition to completing this major, students will also need to complete the Utah State Board of Education licensure requirements for secondary education (either through undergraduate coursework or a Master's in Education that includes licensure).
The Student Experience
Most of the courses required for the English Teaching major will have fewer than 25 students. This major therefore has relatively small class sizes and a great deal of student-faculty interaction, particularly in the "Methods of Teaching Language Arts" courses (ENGL 5410 and ENGL 5420).
Career Opportunities
This major prepares students to teach English Language Arts at the secondary level (high school). However, since nearly every career has a teaching/training/coaching element, graduates of this major have gone on to a wide variety of careers in nearly all sectors of the economy.
