Program Description

Nutritionists study how food and nutrition affect health & wellness, disease prevention, and metabolism. If you are passionate about food, exercise, and eating and living well, consider the minor in Nutrition with the University of Utah. Nutrition students will take courses to learn about how nutrients function at the cellular and physiological level, healthy weight and metabolism, proper nutrution for various age groups (such as children and women), eating disorders, and the role of nutrition to prevent disease and promote optimum sports performance. This program will compliment many majors in the College of Health and give you the knowledge base to promote better health.

Academic and Career Opportunities

If students want to get involved with their department, a number of clubs and organizations offer networking and learning opportunities: Health Professionals for Green Living, One Hour for Life, and the Nutrition and Integrative Physiology Student Advisory Committee all have chapters at the U. When you complete the program, you will have the scientific background and technical skills you need to provide nutrition counseling in conjunction with a career related to your major. Nursing and Kinesiology majors, for example, can use their expertise in the field of nutrition as they help patients and clients lead healthy lives.
