Abstract:

Economic inequality has become a widely discussed social and political issue, but this public discussion has often lacked specifics: How is inequality measured? How does inequality in the United States compare to inequality in other places? How much has it changed over time in the United States? Does inequality itself have any important effects on the broader society? This lecture summarizes some of the recent economic analysis of these issues and will help you fill in some of these important details.
