Ballet Studio Teaching


Program Description

The University of Utah’s School of Dance, consistently recognized as one of the top programs in the country and accredited by the National Association of Schools of Dance (NASD), offers a Ballet Studio Teaching certificate that provides students an opportunity to bolster skills geared toward teaching ballet in commercial, private, and conservatory settings. Coursework includes a focus on ballet teaching, dance production, psychology, and business, and includes individualized feedback on teaching through teaching practicum courses. Current BFA in Ballet majors interested in declaring the Ballet Studio Teaching certificate can do so by meeting with a College of Fine Arts Academic Advisor. Non-majors exhibiting an advanced level of ballet skills may contact the School of Dance about options for pursuing this degree.

The Student Experience

Students will take courses focused both on teaching methods and application of those methods. Examples of courses include ballet pedagogy, dance production, teaching ballet practicum, human development, psychology, and business.

Career Opportunities

The Ballet Studio Teaching Certificate prepares students to teach and manage private studios as well as prepare them for advanced study in the field.
