Declare Your Major
Ready to declare? Why is it important and how do you declare a major?
How to Declare?
Make an appointment with a departmental advisor from the major of your choice.
When to Declare?
The best time to declare is as soon as you are confident you'll complete that major (or minor/certificate).
Why Declare?
- You could qualify for departmental scholarships
- Solidifies graduation requirements (known as catalog year)
- To connect with your major advisor
- Declaring a major establishes a catalog year, which means the set of major requirements you're working on will not change for 5 years
- Once you've declared a major, you've established the first piece of eligibility for departmental and college specific scholarships
- Your major advisor will be able to assist you with graduation, new courses, scholarships, department involvement, and more
- You'll avoid receiving a MAP Undeclared hold, which is placed for students who have earned 60+ credits and are undeclared/exploring
- You do have to declare in order to graduate! (Pre-Majors must declare a full major.)
