Program Description
The Biology Teaching degree is designed to have students gain extensive experience in pedagogy and science communication. The curriculum balances a broad science foundation, as well as allowing students in the program to acquire an understanding of psychological changes involved in transitioning from a child to an adult and multicultural experiences. The program fulfills USBE requirements for an endorsement in teaching biology, chemistry, zoology, environmental science or earth science in K-12 schools in Utah.
The Student Experience
Students in the Biology Teaching BA/BS program will complete myriad coursework in both science and education. The science portion requires completion of ancillary science requirements, including chemistry, biology, physics, and mathematics. Students also have the option to complete additional coursework in geology and atmospheric sciences for an Environmental Science endorsement. In conjunction with the science coursework, students will complete coursework in the College of Education for their secondary teacher licensure.
Career Opportunities
Students will gain a broad understanding in the sciences to be able to fulfill USBE requirements for an endorsement in teaching biology, chemistry, zoology, environmental science and/or earth science in K-12 schools in Utah.
